I still would not suggest to use RC for staging
This would be drawing the pilots full attention in the critical launch phase. Rather have an on-board sequence do its work, once the liftoff-booster has been ignited!
Cheers

Of course not.

Andi Wirth hat folgendes geschrieben: | Hi Giacomo
Great Plane that you're building!
In my glider I used a normal controller for R/C electrical powerd models. 8 cells of a NiCd or NiMH battery are enough for a first fire or Magnlight igniter. Maybe that could fit for your needs? |
Thank you Andi!
If you say it works I do not doubt it and it sounds better than 12V...
How many mAh?

Hi Giacomo

Mmm, I am a bit sceptical if you are not overpowering it. 7 seconds of >3g (3g in vertical climb, much more if you keep the elevation lower, what you may want!
I suggest considering an interchangeable motor mount inset, letting you play with different configurations.
Or maybe a "motor revolver"! That would give you some burn time!
Motor 1: Launch
Motor 2 & 3: G12 for coasting / climbing.

Clustering small AP motors always is some sort of an issue!

You are welcome. Exchanging thoughts is one of the interesting aspects of any project, one never has all possible ideas, i.m.h.o.
We are seeing that constantly at our rocket workplace, where the most "liked" phrase (after completing some work of course) is "why didn't you simply ..... "
Take care

Yet another option is to adapt one of the 32mm MMTs down to 29mm. The 29mm motor is used as a booster to launch the vehicle. After that, the G12s are airstarted via RC.
The selection of 29mm motors is quite big, so it shouldn't be a problem to find a suitable one.
A single motor for the critical boost phase eliminates the cluster specific failure modes. Its short burn time limits the risks associated with a new and unknown vehicle, because the flyer can at least partially verify the performance of the vehicle before igniting the cruise motors. However, airstarting the G12s may be tricky.

Not really - I never had a failure in igniting an RMS-RC Motor. FIxing the igniter in the correct position is the most important point because the BT-RC motors are endburners.
All the best

Not really, if it isn't a cluster to air-start.
I wouldn't hesitate to use the copperhead that comes with the motor to airstart it. All it takes is propper preparation
http://www.argoshpr.ch/articles/pdf/Copperhead.pdf
and measuring the igniter resistance after installation. If it is between 1 and 4 ohms, it will be fine.
You can separate the (contact) end using a little bit of heat and solder a pair of wire to it, for propper connection to the on-board system.
Again, avoid that the igniter is dropped, rather have it trail behind the aircraft.
Sand the grain a bit and everything will be fine.
Have a powerful onboard battery and a relais, more isn't needed.
Take care

two writing "not really (difficult)" in parallel, quite encouraging, isn't it?
