Miss Riley Initiative LDRS 30

Peter Muller and Frank De Brouwer (both TRA TAP) got the idea to built two Rocketboy Miss Riley Rockets in 6.0-inch diameter after the last launch in Switzerland (ALRS XI) that they attended as REBEL Space. Both rockets would be used in a Drag Race during a future launch.

After tossing around with the idea for some time, Peter and Frank worked out the following setup;

Make the design available to fliers worldwide, plan for a Drag Race for as much as possible 6.0 Miss Riley's during LDRS 30, organized by KloudBusters as a 30 year anniversary of LDRS with this awesome beautiful rocket design of Ky Michaelson to celebrate the Rocketry hobby initiative as a whole. The design could also be used for a Level 3 certification flight if someone wants to do this, as it is a Level 3 Rocket design with CPR recovery and a 75mm MMT. So we could see a drag race of level 3 attempts.

To cut down on costs Vendors can offer fliers limited edition parts, such as Nozzle, Fins, Tubing, Chutes, Electronics, Nose Cones and Decals. Everything will be run thru us to coordinate the effort. Vendors can contact us direct so we can list their offerings and fliers can see all the offerings in a central place.

Organization;

Kloud Busters (Hosting prefecture for LDRS 30) will be supporting the drag race with available systems and support.

We invited Homer Hickham and the Rocket Boys to visit the LDRS 30 launch so they can sign rockets if they can make it and want to join in this effort. As their schedule is very busy however we will have to wait and see if this will happen during LDRS 30, but we will go for it.

Peter Muller and Frank De Brouwer will be coordinating this Miss Riley Initiative thru the Dutch Rocket Boys site at www.dutchrocketboys.nl , the site will air a special page concerning this project, will list all these offerings thru the Dutch Rocket Boys site and also offer other info about the progress of the project.

We will make the design in RockSim available for fliers, it will be made available for download via above site, this will be a basic design file that fliers can adapt to their own built of the Rocket. Page will be active at the end of October and will list all developments as the project goes ahead.

Our contact mail will be listed on the site and this press release will be distributed thru the known channels and rocketry forums to reach as much-interested fliers as possible

Parts;

Nozzle;

AeroPack will produce a Special 6.0 Aluminum nozzle that fits over a 3.0 inch 75mm MMT over which a standard 75mm retainer can fit, available against production cost price, fliers can sign in on this limited edition run, Frank will provide the CAD design to AP, after fliers have signed in and we know the production amount that is needed of these nozzles. Pricing is made available up front depending on amount of Nozzles that will be made, as the amount of aluminum that has to be machined is awesome. Fliers will then pay the Nozzles to AeroPack, and AeroPack will do the production run and ship them out to fliers direct from the USA. The Nozzle will not be exactly to scale, as we want to be able to fit a 75mm Motor. To cut on machining costs AeroPack and we have decided not to machine it with a retainer included in the nozzle, as this would become overly expensive. Any 75mm Retainer can be used with this Nozzle as a result, although some will need a different construction to fit it to the Motor Tube, but that is up to individual fliers design.

Prices for the AerPack Nozzle are; Run of 10 U$ 216,11 each
Run of 15 U$ 194,12 each
Run of 20 U$ 182,99 each
Run of 30 U$ 172,13 each
Run of 50 U$ 158,03 each

So the more fliers sign up for this very limited edition run, more fliers benefit from price reductions. Shipping is depending on your location from AeroPack and will be billed individually by AeroPack.

Chutes;

Ky Michaelson, designer of the Rocketboy is on the level with this all and is supporting the idea, so no legal rights are infringed as he alone designed the rocket, and we will only provide the design and as some individual parts will be made available thru Vendors, we will have no legal problems with the production company of October Sky. His words were, “That is a great Ideaâ€.

Rocketman will make some special chutes available for this project against a special price.

Fins;

Our own company REBEL Space will do a run of Carbon Fiber Fins;

Pricing for the Carbon Fiber beveled fins;

One set consists of 3 Carbon Fiber Fins of 820 mm by 233 mm and 5 mm thick (32.28†by 9.17†and 0.20†thick).

Run of 3 sets; 355,00 Euro for 3 fins
Run of more then 3 sets; 319,50 Euro for 3 fins

Shipping is depending on your location from REBEL Space and will be billed individually by REBEL Space. We will be looking into cutting on shipping costs to the USA by searching for someone in the USA that can receive the batch of ordered fins and then send them within the USA to cut down on shipping costs as a result.

Decals;

StickerShock will be offering Decals for the rocket. Pricing will become available at a later date.

Further Parts;

Fliers can buy most parts of shelf from vendors with their own choice of materials or from the specials that Vendors will offer for this project. Vendors and Motor manufacturers can contact us if they want to offer further special deals for this project. We will also actively contact Vendors as the project goes along.

Ah, ich dachte, auf ein Upscale vom "Rocketboy" kommt nie jemand! Jürg, was hatte ich einst geplant? Wink
Allerdings hatte ich damals auch gemerkt, dass man trotz 6" wegen der Düse bei einem Scale- Nachbau auf 54mm und Motoren wie dem K700W 'beschränkt' ist! Razz

Frank, nice idea! That sounds like fun! I'm excited to see how many are going to participate!

Viele Grüße
Marxi

Dear Rocket Builders,

The Miss Riley Initiative has taken off with participation of Rockets Magazine, AeroPack, Rocketman, REBEL Space, Performance Rocketry, Stickershock, SpaceTec, RouseTech, AeroTech and Cesaroni who all chip in so that participating fliers can build a 6 inch Miss Riley for a drag race during LDRS 30 in 2011. As a second initiative we also plan a drag race during ALRS XII in Switzerland for European fliers that cannot make the trip to LDRS 30 in the USA.

All info can be found on www.dutchrocketboys.nl on the Miss Riley page.

Send us a mail if you want to participate in having the opportunity to build and fly this beautiful rocket.

Take care

Frank De Brouwer
